(I seek apologies for this!). But I really enjoyed reading through your article. Your appreciation of her personality is on very general grounds. You use words like calibre, dedication, solidity, defiance of prevailing prejudices,...- these, I think are the virtues that would make people, irrespective of their particular field, great.Deepakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05188350936395112771noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-538874342968130652.post-77085274206414790262009-08-22T08:57:08.740+05:302009-08-22T08:57:08.740+05:30Vishwas, thanks - there was an error in the link a...Vishwas, thanks - there was an error in the link and I've corrected it now.Sunil Mukhihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05155823169161030174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-538874342968130652.post-1329597338877894872009-08-21T22:39:29.013+05:302009-08-21T22:39:29.013+05:30Hi Sunil,

Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of hearing her live, and to be honest, I've never had a great many of her recordings. Of the few, my favourite is her Miyan ki Malhar - a CD bought many years ago in, off all places, Shrimati's in Berkeley - and the Kaushi Kanada posted on Rajan's site.

And yet, as you say, it feels like the closing of an era. Certainly, the loss of an artist of her stature is immense. But I think the loss is also felt more keenly, because it marks the end of era where the artist epitomized a pure, unsullied and singular devotion to his/her craft, which hardly exists today.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
